Hippo Trial in the US – Update
The HIPPO Multipower All Terrain Support Vehicle (ATSV) is currently being trialled in the US. Last week it was put through its paces in the heat of rural Missouri where temperatures were regularly above 40 degrees Celsius. Next week it will be driving through the swamps of Florida. The HIPPO ATSV delivers mission critical supplies to dismounted forces. It has three key characteristics: • Payload. Throughout the trial the HIPPO ATSV has carried a crew of 2 and their equipment (200+ kg), the vehicle complete equipment schedule (100 kg) and a mission load of 750 kg. A total load of 1050 kg. • Mobility. The video gives a taste of some of the terrain that the ATSV has been operating on; heavily wooded terrain with steep sided slopes. The ATSV has the strength to break its own trails. • Power. The ATSV can produce 5 kW of exportable electrical power; sufficient to make a dismounted rifle platoon self sufficient for battery charging. The trial has been planned and delivered by Soteria Defence and Security Ltd.
